Pips is the New York Times’ first original logic puzzle beyond word games. It launched worldwide on August 18, 2025, after a Canada-only beta. Players sit down with a digital board and place colored domino pieces to meet number-based rules in each section. It’s a fresh challenge that blends the familiar shape of dominoes with Sudoku-like logic.
You drag and drop—then rotate—domino tiles onto a grid so that each region’s rule is satisfied. Some areas might demand all values be equal, others ask for a specific sum or a total under or over a number. Each puzzle requires scanning constraints and fitting the right tile in place.
Start with regions that have tight conditions (e.g. sum equals or equals only).
Work from edges and corners where placement options are limited.
Don’t hesitate to adjust—a small change can unlock the whole puzzle.
It’s elegant, thoughtful, and satisfying—every fill offers that “aha!” moment.
